Father Benjamin von Bredow
Rector
Father Benjamin loves this parish, and all the people in it. He approaches his ministy from the perspective of joy, praying that the people of Shelburne will be filled with the joy of knowing God, the joy of worshipping in word and song, and the joy of growing in faith in the company of friends.
Benjamin grew up in Barrie, Ontario, and moved to Nova Scotia in 2013 to study ancient philosophy at the University of King's College and Dalhousie University, where he also met wife, Katy. Having been raised in the Free Methodist Church (Wesleyan), Benjamin was confirmed in the Anglican Church in 2015 and began discerning a call to ministry shortly thereafter. He received a Master's of Theological Studies in Liturgics from the University of Notre Dame in 2019. Benjamin then undertook three years of part-time study in pastoral practice at the Atlantic School of Theology, while working as a church administrator and youth minister. His daughter, Theodora, was born during this time. He was ordained a deacon in May 2022 and began serving at Christ Church in July 2022, and was ordained a priest in November 2022.
Father Benjamin spends his spare time walking and talking with his family or working on one of his many hobbies. He has a small business "writing" (painting) icons in the Byzantine style, and is an amateur woodworker. He casually plays the piano and organ, loves to sing, and will often spend an evening playing online chess.
