Welcome to The Parish of Christ Church
The Parish of Christ Church is located at 128 Hammond Street in the historic Town of Shelburne (population: 1800) on Nova Scotia’s scenic south shore. Historically, most people made their living from the sea – ship building and fishing. The community is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Halifax and is situated on the third largest natural harbour in the world.
CHRIST CHURCH – BUILT BY LOYALIST FOUNDERS OF SHELBURNE, WAS FIRST USED FOR DIVINE SERVICE ON CHRISTMAS DAY 1789, AND CONSECRATED JULY 30, 1790 BY THE RIGHT REV. CHARLES INGLIS, D.D., BISHOP OF NOVA SCOTIA AND THE FIRST COLONIAL BISHOP OF THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND.
This was the first church consecrated by a Bishop in British North America.
THE CHURCH WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE FEBRUARY 14, 1971.
The Opening Service of the new Christ Church was held on December 20, 1972.
